Peter Hedstrom

Tough weekend for Hedström

Reoccurring problems but positive C-Final victory leaves the team confident for round two in Dreux, France.

Peter Hedström launched his 2012 ERC season this weekend at Lydden Hill, Great Britain. The Skoda campaigner was immediately struck with troubles, a broken rear axle that occurred in Sunday’s first practice sessions, only hindered Peter’s chances of gaining a good first heat result.

The team welcomed the postponement of the first qualifying heat of ERC due to continuing problems with the false start detector system on the Lydden Hill Race Circuit starting grid. Hedström’s luck continued into heat one, which ran on the second day. A seventh place finish overall placed Peter in a good position leading into heat two. In heat three, Peter got off to a great start, but technical problems late on, again affected his chances of gaining a competitive race time. “This time it was a broken throttle wire which snapped, I had no control of the power and had to go off,” told a disappointed Peter Hedström. A good time in heat three was now needed to help the team gain a B-Final position. But Peter was again faced with car issues that were out of his hands. “Unbelievably the same problem that we had in Sunday’s practice run had come back, the rear axle broke, and I was out of control,” said Hedström. Peter was left spun round nearing the end of the race, and narrowly avoided collision with the other drivers.

Despite the day’s bad luck, the team had still managed to make the SuperCar C-Final. Hedström got off to great start and drove faultlessly to earn himself a respectable win. Unfortunately the prospect of moving up to the back of the B-Final was lost due to the team simply not having enough time to fully repair the car.

“It was tough on the team, and we have had bad luck most of the weekend. We will keep going and move on from this now, and focus on getting a good result in France round two,” told a positive Peter Hedström.

The team will now head to Circuit de l’Ouest Parisien in Dreux, France to continue their European Rallycross Championship campaign on the 28th April.
