After some positive results during round one in Great Britain the team
headed to the Circuit d l’Ouest Parisien in Dreux, for round two of the
European Rallycross Championship.

The French round of the series was a gruelling two-day affair made harder by
persistent rain and bad conditions. The home advantage of the French locals
was clear and the SuperCar class was hugely competitive sporting a 32 driver
entry list.

Peter’s performance in Saturday morning’s free practice sessions was
consistent, smooth and increasingly fast. Peter quickly got to grips with
the highly technical Dreux circuit, made much more of a challenge due to
torrential rain and poor visibility. Hedström recorded 18th fastest in free
practice two and 19th fastest in the official timed practice. Both driver
and car looked in good shape for the start of the first heat of qualifying
on Saturday afternoon.

When it counted, Hedström continued to improve his performance. The Fabia
driver was classified as 16th fastest at the end of heat one, but sadly had
his time stripped of him due to yet more bad luck. “It’s frustrating. I felt
I was getting faster, and was quite pleased with the time in such bad
conditions. But I was disqualified from the heat because my rear wing was
too high, just 3mm.” Said a disappointed Peter Hedström.

The team quickly got to work, making adjustments to the car, and set their
sights on getting a good result in the second heat which ran Sunday morning.
Conditions gradually started to get drier on track, and the team were
optimistic that Peter would be able to perform. And perform he did, getting
off the line well and battling for the top spot. Sudden contact from behind
ended Hedström’s run in heat two, and Peter had no chance but to stop due to
bad damage. 95 points in heat one due to a disqualification and 80 points in
heat two due to a DNF unfortunately put the team out of contention for a
position in Sunday afternoon’s finals.

“After that, we had no other choice but not to run in the third heat, as we
had no chance of a final. But we are now looking forward to Austria in a few
weeks’ time,” reflected Peter.

The team will now add some testing sessions to their itinerary before round
three, in a hope to make sure the car is 100% ready. “We have the goal of a
top placement,” says Hedström.

The team will head to the PS Racing Center in Greinbach, Austria in three
weeks’ time, to continue their European Rallycross Championship campaign on
the 27th May.
