After Peter Hedström had claimed the runner-up position to winner Timur Timerzyanov in his home ERC round at Höljes, last Sunday the Škoda campaigner bagged another top result in Finland.
At Kouvola, halfway between the capital Helsinki and the Finnish-Russian border, the Swede drove his Fabia Mk2 SuperCar to a fine third place. However, it looked even better for Peter as he was the dominating driver of the qualification. While Saturday’s Timed Practice ended with an 8th place and the first Qualifying Heat with a 9th position on Sunday morning it was time to fight back. From the second runs the man from Torsby brought back the fastest time of al SuperCar drivers, and in the third heat Peter was able to score the same result once again.
Starting the last race of the weekend from the Pole Position Hedström was beaten to the first corner by Michaël De Keersmaecker and Timur Timerzyanov, but while the Belgian lost the lead by slipping wide and into the sand trap the Russian remained calm, claimed his fourth victory in a row and sealed his first European title. After Briton Liam Doran made it to second place and Peter Hedström saved himself the third position the Škoda Fabia driver is currently on 8th position the highest placed Swedish driver of the ERC point standings.
For the coming final round of the European championship in Germany he hopes for another podium result, after his 2nd place in Höljes and the 3rd in Kouvola a 1st place in Buxtehude would make a perfect end of the season…
