One week after his marvelous drive in Finland Peter Hedström was still in great form during the 2012 ERC Finale at the German Estering near Hamburg. Saturday did not start too well for the Swede, Timed Practice ended with only the 11th fastest time of the SuperCars category. However, not much later the 1st Qualifying Heat saw Peter turning his speed up; here he scored the 2nd fastest time, being only beaten by Frenchman Davy Jeanney.

On Sunday the Škoda campaigner was able to continue staying on top of his class, the worthy 3rd fastest time in the 2nd runs eventually became his worst qualification result. During the 3rd heats no-one was able to stop that man from Torsby and his ex-Jernberg Fabia Mk2, with 2:45:423 minutes for four Estering laps Peter drove the fastest seeding time of the whole weekend to ensure himself the grid place beside pole setter Jeanney for the front row of the all-decisive A final.

So far all had gone very well for Hedström, but in the last race of the event as well as the ERC season utter chaos happened. Heading into the lead through the first bend and towards the first corner Peter was nudged into a spin by the hard chasing Davy Jeanney. Thereby, the Škoda was forced making contact with the Ford Fiesta Mk7 of Pavel Koutný, the Czech crashing hard against the track banking, becoming airborne to drop down on the roof of Hedström’s Fabia Mk2.

While Koutný had to retire, due to a severely damaged car of his, Peter Hedström’s helpers were quick enough to prepare the Fabia SuperCar as good as possible for the second A final start attempt. However, there were more troubles to come here and after only one lap the Swede retired his heavily damaged car to be classified as 7th overall only, while Briton Liam Doran claimed his first ERC victory of the year.
